Auerbach

As in neighbouring municipalities, the hosiery factory in Auerbach, a town which dates back to 1447, was an important industry at the start of the 20th century, and experienced its heyday in Auerbach after the First World War. In 1911, Auerbach was also connected to the narrow-gauge railway between Thum and Meinersdorf, which accelerated the emergence of industry and infrastructure. Despite the town’s increasing modernisation, the inhabitants of Auerbach have kept their old traditions and customs alive. During the Christmas season, windowsills in the community are decorated with illuminated miniatures such as houses, trees and figurines. In order to keep this culture flourishing, the people of Auerbach also adorn the giant windowsill opposite the council office at Christmas and Easter time.
