Housed in a former church, the GDR Museum in Gelenau transports you back to the world before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The museum is divided into various thematic areas. How were apartments furnished at that time? What was our favourite toy? What could you find in a “Tante Emma Laden” (“Auntie Emma Store”)? What textbooks and compulsory reading did we have in school? Which rare newspaper subscriptions were passed down? The GDR Museum answers these questions vividly, and reminds us of the GDR era.

The GDR Museum is located in the lower part of Gelenau. Approximately 5 km away, the B95 runs between Annaberg-Buchholz and Chemnitz. The B174 is also about 6 km away in the direction of Chemnitz and Marienberg.
