Located at a former farm, the “Knochenstampfe” is the only bone-pulverising plant still preserved in the Erzgebirge. Its main attraction is the water wheel-driven stamping mill, which was used to turn animal bones into fertiliser.

You can also find the oldest Old German stone oven to be preserved in Saxony, which was built in 1585. There are a number of themed exhibitions situated across several rooms, which examine the history of Dorfchemnitz in detail. Of particular note is the exhibition in honour of Samuel Freiherr von Pufendorf, the town’s most famous son. He was born in Dorfchemnitz in 1632 and gained world renown as a jurist and historian working in natural and international law.

Public transport

Take the city train from Chemnitz in the direction of Aue to Dorfchemnitz train station. It is about 100m to walk to the museum.

By road

A72 from Hof or Chemnitz, exit Stollberg West S258 towards Zwönitz

A4 from Erfurt or Dresden, exit Hohenstein-Erntthal B180 towards Stollberg, through-road Stollberg S258 towards Zwönitz

Junction and through-road Brünlos - Neue Thalheimer Straße.

After leaving Brünlos, turn right onto Thalheimer Straße towards Dorfchemnitz.

In Dorfchemnitz der Follow the signs "Heimatmuseum Knochenstampfe".
